The gallery

The Aquilani & Sons Art Gallery was founded by the entrepreneur and collector David Aquilani in Piazza di Spagna in Rome. Driven by a deep passion for Asia, he studied Southeast Asian religions, particularly Buddhism and Vedanta, along with Christian-Orthodox iconography, for years.

The gallery not only provides an exhibition space but also an opportunity to share specific knowledge about the exhibited artworks, their origins and history, and the symbolic value the artefacts hold in their original cultures.

Located in Via San Sebastianello, the exhibition space presents to visitors rare and precious art objects, primarily statues from Asia. The artworks are carefully evaluated and acquired, ensuring their quality and authenticity, with thorough documentation of their provenance.

Aquilani & Sons collaborates with experts in Oriental antiquities and the most qualified laboratories for restoration and conservation.

The story

Beauty has caressed me throughout my life.

As a child, I was surrounded by art because of my father’s passion, sometimes unknowingly.

I recall the enthusiastic tales of new discoveries: an intricately inlaid antique piece of furniture, a baroque frame carved with cartouches, a vintage oil painting on canvas. I remember having lunch on a Renaissance walnut refectory table and the stone sculptures in the garden, which was my refuge while playing hide-and-seek. On weekends, we strolled hand-in-hand through the historic centers of villages where traditional workshops displayed rare and precious objects of various crafts and origins. I spent hours listening to conversations and negotiations while on journeys through distant places and cultures. A road with no turning back.

Aquilani & Sons is a vehicle for conveying a message that began years ago. Thank you, Dad!

I have been able to inherit my father’s passion, knowledge, curiosity, and keen observation, along with an intuitive power completely beyond my control. Now, my goal is to allow others to experience what I experienced.

Some passions find their way into the labyrinth of the soul, and their journey ends only when they reach the center of our being.
