Readings on Display. Marise Ferro and La sconosciuta between Literature, Art, and Memory

On Friday, June 6, the gallery Aquilani & Sons hosted Readings on Display, an event dedicated to La sconosciuta, the final novel by Marise Ferro, recently republished by Elliot Edizioni with a preface by Francesca Sensini.

This lucid and compelling work by one of the most unconventional voices of twentieth-century Italian literature explores, with precision and depth, the mother-daughter relationship, mourning, and the desire for understanding within family ties. These themes were the focus of the conversation between Francesca Sensini, Professor of Italian Studies at Université Côte d’Azur in Nice and curator of the reprint project, and Diego Ferrante, curator of the exhibition Materie by Beppe Madaudo, currently on view in the gallery.

Organized in collaboration with the bookstore L’Altra Città, the event offered a lively dialogue between word and image, memory and matter — an exploration of what remains: of relationships, of stories, of bodies.

Readings on Display reflects the spirit of Aquilani & Sons as an open and inclusive space, a place of encounter between different expressive languages — from text to image, from material to voice — and a platform for fostering critical dialogue between form, thought, and experience.
